The biggest advice I can give on walking boots is make sure you try them on first before buying. Each makes sizes vary massively. Although this doesn't matter too much with trainers because they stretch it makes a huge difference with rigid walking boots. Too small and your toe rubs on the end. Too big and your heels slide the flex in the forefoot is in the wrong place causing blisters on the top of your feet. I'd look for some waterproof boots that are made out of suede rather than leather. The break-in period will probably be shorter. That bring me to my next most important thing. Boots needs much longer to break into than trainers so she'll need to do quite a bit of walking (maybe into school everyday) in the boots before the walk. I did a 54 mile 24 hour walk last year and 24 miles of that was with blisters. I cannot tell you how painful it is!

Thanks for all the advice. My DH will be passing an Aldi tomorrow so he's going to look. If not we'll try Sports Soccer, so she can try them on. She's got time to wear them in before she goes and I'll probably ebay them afterwards to recoup some of the costs.

    Thanks again!:T

If you could afford/wanted to buy a couple of pairs in Aldi to bring home and try for size, they are excellent about giving refunds on unused, return items. Good luck!
