Allocated parking spaces

Sorry if this is on the wrong forum...
Two weeks ago we received a letter from our housing association saying that the allocated parking spaces to the properties where we live will need to have a warrant. They want everyone to send the details of their cars registration number etc to make sure they are connected to our homes address, to avoid people from other areas parking in the spots.
As it's in West London it is not an easy place to park so they are trying to stop arguments over parking spaces and such.
The thing is we sold our car a few months ago as we weren't using it much and have n plans to get another one anytime soon. We use our parking space for when family and friends visit.
I am going to phone the housing association tomorrow and explain this but I want to know where we stand.
When we bought the shared ownership property it clearly stated all homes get an allocated parking space.
Can they actually take our space away if we haven't got a car? Surely this can't be right. Apparently this is happening in quite a few areas.
Any help would be appreciated as this has wound us right up!
Thanks all

Why not send a list of registrations eg parents, best friends etc.
How is it going to work? Will you have to display the warrant in the car? Surely they could give a parking permit for display on the dashboard that you can hand to family/friends when they visit you?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
I just think if you are given a parking space with your property it's up to you what you do with it. They say you can't rent it out etc but there is no way they should be able to 'take it back' because we no longer have a car, it's a joke. Im not sure if thats what they are planning to do but it seems that way.0

Anyway I will be phoning tomorrow but would like to know where I stand before they try telling me this and that. I don't see how they can just take the space back0

Do you have any paperwork from the house sale regarding the rights of the management company? The spaces might not be freehold and even if it is freehold it might say that they have the right to control who uses the allocated spaces. Your problem is that it sounds like they might contract a clamping company or use those self-administered ticketing packs. If that happens it's worth getting somebody to look over the contracts to see if they are allowed to do that.
Parking problems is one of the main things that put me off getting a flat or the newer type houses with allocated parking, although I appreciate that in some areas it's rare to get an off-road space, let alone one alongside your house!0 -
They are clamping vehicles that are parking around the bays at the moment.
I don't think we should be 'punished' for not having a car. As far as im concerned the space is ours. What about when family visit for example?
I'll find out more tomorrow but won't be happy if we lose the space0 -
