house insurance saga

Hya folks, I've rang Saga about renewing my house insurance and told them I've had a better quote. The guy on the phone told me they will discount upto £100 with no problems, or proof, at all. Mine is more than that, so they are asking for proof, no problem there, but why cann't they give me their BEST QUOTE anyway.

Similar situation with car sales, mobile phone contracts etc etc.

I always feel insulted when this happens, because I feel that when they offered me the first price they thought I wa stupid enough to take it.

I guess there are always people who will take the first price offered and so that is why they do it.

Its a world where every one wants to get as much money as possible out of as many people as possible in the shortest possible time.

I have done this myself and when i am price matched i tell them i wouldnt touch them with a barge pole for thinking i am stupid. And i will tell all my friends.
After this post Saga is now on my list too
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Annoys me as well - if the cheapest I could find was within 10% I'd give them a call to negotiate, but anything better than that I just switch anyway.
  • My Home and Insurance is due for renewal the end of the month I am also with saga
the premium has shot up to nearly £500 I shopped around with confused.com and got budget Home and buildings For £207.... Saga are dirty robbing thieving B******
They just hope you stay with them out of loyalty.

    It's nice to be Important

But It's Important to be nice
  • I have always found Saga very expensive, for the cover that I require.
For the past 6 years I have found Castle insurance the cheapest.
  • RIAS(retirement insurance advice service)specialise in over 50s insurance, but accept under 50s as well, just saved 15% with them over what was already a low policy with e sure, they were even happy to haggle -)
  • This topic makes my blood boil! I got this year's renewal quote from Halifax for buildings and contents at over £950 for the year. Been with them forever - no claims. And they have the cheek to say that I have qualified for their loyalty discount. Cheeky cheeky cheeky!

I can hardly believe that after doing a bit of the old price comparison surfing last night, I can get cover that is every bit as good for less than £200. It's a right royal rip-off and I shsll take great pleasure in advising them where hey can shove their renewal quote. Of course, I'm the mug for being too lazy in the past to spend a while shopping around.

Well, off to take another tablet now......

Insurance companies really do not know the meaning of customer loyalty, if your a regular they think that is a good reason to rip you off.

I always shop around every year and go through a cashback site such as Quidco or Cashbackkings . My insurance for my house or car has never being above £200 and usually a lot less.

In fact just renewed my car. The premium was £187 fully comp plus I have been awarded £50 for going through Cashbackkings and I get a £30 fuel voucher from the insurance company !

I always forget about the cash back....I know, it's stupid, but I just had a renewal for car insurance from SAGA and then shopped around like the previous poster and saved over £100 with Liverpool Victoria at £228 fully comp. Apart from anything else I could never get anyone to speak to me at Saga.... "all lines are engaged etc".
  • :Ti went with The Yorkshire Building Society and it was a better deal as discouded if you mature. Basic Tesco insurance isn't bad either.
