Wireless Printer and Telephone problems

Hi I have just installed my Lexmark X9350 printer and it appears to be working fine - printing wirelessly. However my landline telephone has suddenly stopped working and when you attempt to dial a number the sound through the handset is all bells and echos which screech as you move the handset (its a mobile handset).

Is this purely coincidence or could my printer installation in anyway have affected it?? I have tried switching the printer, PC and router off and nothing! I have also tried plugging the phone directly (its currently through the splitter thing that comes with your broadband connection) into the phone socket (on the wall) and still nothing.

Any advice or reassurance would be great - thanks!

DECT phones can interfere and be interfered with by wireless G devices. But if you've switched all those devices off and tried it again then that can't be the problem.
I would get hold of an old fashioned corded phone and try that in the master socket to establish if you can make and receive calls, that should tell you whether it is an external line fault or not.

  • That's what I thought my next step would have to be.

    Thanks!

Has anyone else had this issue?

Also try changing the wireless channel on the router.

  • How do I do that?

Just for info - I never had any issue setting up my wireless web access on my laptop.

Just log into the router interface from your browser and alter it in the wireless settings section.

No, go to the wireless settings in the router and change the wireless channel, eg if it's 6. try 11. Nothing to do with the IP address.
Impossible to give precise instructions as you haven't told us the make or model of your router.
