My Budgie Just Died...

Harry (Hattie) the budgie just died aged 2 years.

We went to the vet with her on thursday because our other budgie was ill and the vet said she was a little thin but okay...

She was fine this morning and i've just got home from walking the dogs to find her dead on the floor frown.gif

I think it might av something to do with a mystery illness that no vet seemed to know what it was..

I'm so sorry about your budgie. :(

I had two budgies that suddenly died, they were around the same ages as Harry and I was devastated. A few of my friends never understood why I got so upset as they were just budgies, but a lot of people don't seem to realise how much fun they can be.

It's been a few years and I now have another budgie who's hand tamed and very friendly albeit miserable! She's 6 years old but I know she'll be my last as I can't face losing another budgie.

I hope you feel better soon, I know how you feel.

    Best wishes xx
  • :( we took both budgies to the vet just last thursday to make sure they were ok!
We were more concerned with Barry who was making a weird noise. Poor Harry was checked over but the vet said she was okay. She was fine this morning.. We've just checked her over though and she seems extremely thin :( But we cant understand why the vet didnt think there was something wrong :(

This is our 4th or 5th budgie.. we've had cockatiels too :( Im sure when i went to pick her up that she moved.. but rig-a-morthes (sp?) set in so obviously she had died when i was out :( x

  • Awwwww I am so sorry to hear about your little bird ... trouble is that budgies and cockatiels are prone to picking up infections and even with treatment they tend not to do well.

I recently lost a cockatiel in much the same way ... I even paid £65 for a vet visit because I thought taking him in his cage in the car would stress him out and make him worse ...

The vet took a culture from his throat but warned me that by the time budgies and cockatiels are showing signs of illness it really can be touch and go whether or not they pull through.

Not that that makes you feel any better right now, of course! ... but just know that there probably was very little that could have been done. It's a very sad day ... *hugs*
  • We had a budgie called Dickie years ago and we got him to 13 years old :( so he died of old age but he had alot of colds etc through the years which he managed to get over :(

But non of the budgies have managed to get to even 5 :( I lost a cockatiel a few years ago to cancer :(

Im pretty shocked tbh.. We thought if one was guna die we thought it was going to be Barry as he was the one we were taking to the vet :( x

Burying your budgies together is lovely. I have my two budgies (Nippy & Emerald) buried next to each other in a window box as I don't have a garden. It looks beautiful in the summer when the flowers bloom, when the flowers start to sprout I get excited and tell my OH "Nippy and Emerald, are back", silly I know... :o

I hope it went okay with your sis, and best of luck for tomorrow. xx
