problem with new build

Hello all, just looking for some advice with a problem I have had.
I have bought a new build and my completion date was friday, I waited for my solicitor to get in touch all day and in the end I called at 5pm to find out what was the hold up, I was told that she didnt know the completion date was today.
I got in touch with the builder and was told that the solicitor knew and all should have been sorted, anyways to cut a long story short the completion date has been postponed a week and I am left homeless for a week with nowhere to store my furnitur etc
My solution was to rent my removal van for an extra week to keep all my furniture in there and I have had to doss down at a friends, Im quite angry about this situation but now my solicitor has called me to say things can be sorted tomorrow(monday) as long as I am prepared to do a round trip of 200 miles to her office to sign a form and also told me that all her fees of over £1000 will need to be settled up tomorrow before completion.
This wouldnt be so bad except her only forms of payment are cash or bnkers draft, Is it normal procedure for all solicitors fees to be paid for before completion?

I'm not sure if it's normal but I wouldn't be surprised. A lot of Solicitors also accept payment by credit-card. In your case I'd be asking for some form of discount on the service as she has let you down so very badly and you've incurred additional costs and inconvenience but if she's not going to process your documentation until she's seen the colour of your money, she's effectively got you over a barrel. I paid solicitors fees in the same bank transfer as my deposit (balance deposit not the 10% they wanted at exchange)0
