My 2 yr old has just "thrown" one of his toys which hit my husbands laptop screen.
The screen is fractured - you can see the normal background - but with a big piece of it with lines on.
We have just changed our house insurance as well - and - goodness knows why - but my husband put a £200 excess!!
So not much point claiming on insurance - how easy are screens to fix??
We are in Warrington - so if anyone knows of anywhere that repairs????
Me & 2 yr old now sat in the back room watching a DVD on our own....

It's only a bunch of screws and a few connectors... it all depends how sausage fingered the person doing the job is.
New screens are around £70 ish and it will take an hour or two.
Search for screen changing instructions for your model laptop, there maybe some youtube clips if it is a common laptop. You will be able to see how easy it is before taking the plunge.0 -

very easy, make sure you get the correct replacement screen for your model of laptop, hardest part is getting the case apart but you should be able to find instructions on the web showing which screws to remove and where to unclip the casing.0 -
Did you have any luck?0

I had a new screen fitted to my son's Samsung a couple of weeks ago. The place is on Lyons Road, Trafford Park and cost just under £100, fully fitted in half an hour. I'll try to find the invoice to get the name of the company.0

This unfortunate incident happened in the middle of September 2009, folks!0

Since this is an old thread that's been bumped, I'm going to hijack it to talk about something that happened to my laptop screen.
One day when I switched it on, there was a big black splotch on the screen, slightly bigger than a thumb print. Don't know how it happened, but I suspect the cat might have stood on the laptop when the lid was closed, as it was suspiciously paw shaped and about the right size. There was also what looked to be a crack, but I think it's internal since the actual surface of the screen isn't damaged at all.
Anyway, after many rants and looking at the cost of replacing (which I ultimately decided against, it was on the upper portion of the screen and not too much of a pain), I started noticing it shrink and more pixels return. After about 3 or 4 weeks it was completely gone.
Anyone heard of anything like this before? All I can think is that the liquid crystals 'leaked' and then slowly filtered back or something, does seem pretty bizarre to me though0
