Can they charge me more than the label price?

Hiya. I hope someone can advise me on this.
I recently ordered some clothes from a very well known online retailer (I'll spare their blushes at this point).
One of the tops I ordered cost me £54 as stated on their website. When it arrived the printed label said £49.
They have refused to refund the difference. They say the top 'may have been in the sale' and that they work 'independently of the store' and have referred me to their terms and conditions which state:
'If a pricing error has been made, we reserve the right to suspend your order and contact you to ask whether you wish continue with the order at the correct price. We will not be obliged to supply goods at the incorrect price'
Can they do this? It's a printed label, not a red 'sale' label. There is nothing to suggest that this isnt the actual price?
I really want to keep the top or I'd tell them to stick it!
Thanks
Els

But you were happy to pay the £54 for it. It's not as if they claimed it was £49 then asked for more.0 -
Not really sure how that is relevant....?
Thanks for your input but it was the legality I was enquiring about.0 -
Unfortunately, there is little you can do. In a store, the price tag would be the advertised price, that you agree to pay.
Online, the higher price was shown, which you agreed to pay. The fact that there was a lower price tag on it when you received it has no bearing on the price they offered it at and what you agreed to pay.0 -
The £49 might be an old price tag and the new price this season for the item is £54.The advertised web price was £54 and thats what you paid, you got what you ordered at the price you agreed.
If the item is still £49 in store then maybe you could ask for the difference back(they would not have to do that though) or return it and buy it in store. If you dont get postage refunded though it may be cheaper just to keep it."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -

It's absolutely relevant and is the legal position, as the above two posts explain.0 -
