Turn it down!!
It sounds as if there is a full signal coming through the lead, and not a line signal as your card would expect. Your card is trying to process an already heavy signal even further, which will result in distortion. Hence the crackling. If you plugged the lead into the MIC socket on your card you likely wouldn't have this problem.
Go into the audio properties, and reduce the line in level to almost zero. This means less signal coming through the card's processor, and should result in a significant difference in sound out.0 -
I already switched it to microphone socket, but same problem - should I reduce the volume for the microphone?bingo_bango wrote: »Turn it down!!

You should actually try to turn it down from the console settings first off. Less signal coming through the lead that way, and less for the card to have to do.
I have similar problems sometimes if I'm running too many different channels on audio recording software. My card just can't handle the amount of signal it's getting from all the channels and becomes choppy and distorted. Your problem is similar.
The problem with the PC audio settings is that you'll get very little capacity to change the settings. Essentially you would want a limiter between the feed and the card, but would be rather expensive to do so.
Might be worth investing in a cheap surround sound system. I have one with 5.1 and stereo inputs. I use the 5.1 from the PC and stereo from the Xbox. No issues whatsoever then.0
