We have heavy weight full length curtains that generally cost about £55 to be dry cleaned, so last year I did them one at a time in the machine on the coldest wash possible. Like others have said, I lost about an inch in length but they were a bit too long anyway so it didn't matter too much.
It is a risk though of course.
