What spec have you got now, what features are you trying to get by upgrading, what is wrong with the old one, how much have you got to spend?

How old is the one you have? You could just upgrade the one you have, £30 for a new bigger HD, £30 for a DVD re-writer, £30 for some ram.

If it is over 5 years old, and doesn't have XP, it may be better to get a new one.

This is like deja vu with the GF :D Basically, you are looking for a machine with at least 512MB of RAM, 80GB or larger hard disk and DVD writer. All the processor's these days will do you, since there isn't much that's slow when it comes to emails, web surfing, document writing, etc. Just find as cheap a machine as you can that fits those criteria and don't let the man down PC world bamboozle you.

How do you connect to the internet at the moment?
