Air Heat Pump in New Build Property

Hi there

Has anyone got an air heat pump in their property as an alternative to the conventional heating?

I have viewed a newly built property and it has one of these in. It has underfloor heating and an air pump that is placed outside the house.

Does it require maintenance & how often?

Is it cheaper to run? Is it reliable? Would anyone recommend them?

    Hi,

Assuming you mean an an air source heat pump - fairly new technology for domestic fittings, but are getting better all the time.

    See

  • We've all got them... They are called fridges & freezers:

The one you are thinking about works t'other way round... pumps heat from outside to inside the house...

Of course they b****in work... Are the reliable??? FK!

    Cheers!

When you ask, do they work, you presumably mean how efficient are they at converting electricity into heat. The website above says "Cut down on wasted electricity: heating your home with an air source heat pump is much more efficient than using electric radiators."

The real question though is whether it is cheaper to run than gas heating? I suspect that it isn't, or they would say so. In addition, the CO2 table on that page shows "no saving" compared to gas. These systems are much more expensive to install than a gas central heating system.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
