It does say something about 25 starts...

Got the machine from the BT Shop

    came with Vista already loaded

Will check out the free programmes above

    Ahhh!

I think I get you now. It says you still have 25 starts left, and if you ignore the product key, then you can use away at it.

But after the 25 uses are up, then you will have to buy the product key. Hence there is no evidence that this laptop is anything but new, as 25 uses or 60 days are very common trial versions.

No computer comes with a full version of Office installed these days, as it helps to keep the costs of computers down, and probably due to competition laws as well. So the fact you've only got a trial version is nothing you can reject the laptop for.

If the Microsoft Office disc came supplied with your old PC unfortunately you can't use that on your new pc as the license ties it to the old machine.

If it's something like Office 97 though, there shouldn't be a problem, as Microsoft didn't have the technology back then to limit the number of installs! We've got a 97 disc as well which we used to used on loads of computers.

Or whoever is your email provider. (Don't know the last time I used anything from my ISP on my pc).

This one has been done to death on here before but that's illegal. It may be possible but you're stealing.

Tell us who your ISP is and someone can give you the server names. You will also need your email password to complete the set up.
Outlook or Office is not part of Vista, you have to buy it separately. If you just want to get your emails, then set your email account up in Windows Mail, which is pre-installed with Vista. This gives you the option to make Windows Mail your default email program.

  • MS Office - Well its working...... although it is very old!

The liscensing does seem daft that you cant use it on more than one PC. Should be a way of transferring it if you upgrade.

I am accessing my btinternet account via yahoo so not a problem now really. I was just used to using outlook.

Will take a look at the new office products - long time since I upgraded!!!

Licenses are either single use or multi use. You can use the software on a different machine, but if it's a single user license then you have to uninstall it from the original system.
If you are on BT internet then both the mail servers (POP and SMTP) are:
    mail.btinternet.com
When you open Windows Mail for the first time it will launch the email account setup wizard.
