Item not as described

Hi, I was wandering if there was anything that I could do about an item that I won on ebay. I bought a tumble dryer that was described as holding a 7kg load. However after collecting the dryer and looking for instructions on the internet I have found that it only holds a 5kg load. I paid via paypal for the item and collected in person. Is there anything I could do about the item not being as described? Many thanks Nicola

I assume you have contacted the seller already and given them a chance to respond, if so what did they say?

If they were not helpful then you can do a claim for item not as descriebd via paypal but you will have to return the item at your own expense.

Hi, I am still awaiting a reply. Unfortunately we travelled 1 and half round journey to collect which is frustrating if we have to return it. Will post their reply when I get one, many thanks

  • Quick question: would it have to be returned via a recorded/tracked method for a paypal claim to be sucessful? (as OP collected in person?)

An honest seller will just refund but of course a seller who wants to avoid a refund might try that on. However since item was collected there might be a right of appeal to paypal.

OT: I suppose you could argue that you never received the item and the seller wouldn't have any proof of delivery - slippery road though that one. (Why I never accept paypal payments on collection only items)

I always tend to assume that posters here are morally truthful.

  • If the dryer works ok could you not ask the seller for a partial refund? Seems a bit pointless returning it especially having to travel the distance you did to collect it, whats 2kg a pair of jeans ?

    tut tut tut wrong sellers.

my friend brought a bunkbed and paid through paypal after collecting item (had a fairly good look at house first) but when getting it home and trying to fit together found that the screw holes were all damaged so it could not be put together again. this was sold as nearly new and perfect condition.
so she put a claim in with paypal and was denied as she had collected item herself.

You wont win an INR claim through paypal for a collected item as they say you should have checked it properly before taking the item.

I bid on the item as it was described on ebay (at that point I had not seen the item) Also I had already paid via paypal before I collected the item.

I dont want my money back but a partial refund or an apology from seller would be nice. Still not has a reply yet!
