Mot
I bought my car at Arundale about 3 years ago and its due for an MOT in July. Will I be better to have the MOT done at Arundale or one that is run by the council? Hope somebody can comment and have similar experience as to where I can get the cheapest. many thanks.

Is Arundale a dealership with a workshop? If so, do you trust them not to fail your vehicle or recommend work that perhaps does not need doing?
We use a garage we have used for many years and we trust them. Otherwise, I would use the local council who have no interest and nothing to gain as a result of your MOT.0 -
Bossyboots thanks. It is a dealership with a workshop. I have to ask some of my mates if its likely that they will fail. The nearest local council MOT center is about 45 miles from us. And since this is my first MOT I don't have a clue as to how long does the test to complete.0

If it was a new car 3 years ago, It would be unlikely to fail wherever you take it.
I have used various local garages who do cut price mots and I cant remember when i last had a car that failed.0 -
It wouldn't be worth the journey for the council test - there must be other independent test centres, other than the supply dealer.
But isn't it due a service around the same time as the MoT? Depending on whether you're keen to keep the service history as Main Dealer maintained, or happy to go elsewhere, it'd make sense to have them done both together.
Alsoif you've average miles covered, favourite first test failures are usually worn front tyres & brake pads. Both easy to identify, free of charge at a fast fit tyre bay - get a quote before you let them do the jobs, if needed!!

I use a place that only does M O Ts. They are keen but fair and not looking for work.
My experience of franchised garages is that they are always looking for work for their repair bay.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Thanks for all your replies. New tyres just Feb. due to punctured by broken glass and had just been serviced last year after 12,000 miles and then recommended next 20,000 miles. Can I just bring my car to them and ask for a quote? or once I brought the car in they'll charge if it fails? Sorry no previous experienced as it is my first car.0

No your service when was it done as if it was july last year you should get it done again as eventhough they say the next one is at 20,000 miles it normally stated that it is every year or every so many thousand miles depending on your car. I am in the same situation and i am gettin the service and mot at the same time from arnold clark only £89 not bad as mot is normally £44 alone. My advice is if they want to fit things ask for a quote first and most dealerships will rip you off for stuf like windscreen wipers and things including tyres. Mine will probably need tyres for mot and i have already bought them online and if needs be i will put them in the car and tell tem to fit them if they are needed. As said if it is the dealer stamp you looking for go to the dealer but an mot is an mot its the same where ever you go. With the service rember that to keep you warrenty valied you have to get proprer manufacurer parts. But most car have a three year warrenty so its probaly not worth your while0

you can help yourself a bit, check you lights/ wipers /seat belts/tyres these are the most common fail items, if take it for a test you will pay pass or fail.0
