Connecting to Internet but not sure how

Been away from my Asus EEE Netbook for three weeks, got back yesterday. My BT Home Hub is showing all the right three green lights to say it is receiving wireless signal, but when I call up Available Networks my own WEP code prefix is not showing, just several neighbours' ones (I'm in a house of flats) all locked, and a BT Openzone.
While I was puzzling over this, the red X through the online symbol in my task bar disappeared, so I seem to have connected automatically. That's fine if it is my own connection I'm on, although I'm puzzled as to how it has happened, as I always used to have to type in the complete WEP code.
Is there some way I can see what I am connected through?

What you want to do is have a look at your "Wireless Network connection status".
On the support tab, take the IP of your Default Gateway, and type that into firefox.
It should take you to the routers webpage to setup its preferences, if this matches your own details then you're fine.0 -

Just clicked on Linux icons for both Networks and Network Connections, and got same message on both...
There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDC - the message returned by the system... (off end of line so might be longer)...
Could not open network socket
Please check that the dcop server program is running.
Needless to say I haven't a clue what that means.
