sports direct refund nightmare

Hi there, has anyone else had bother getting a refund from this shop? Two days ago purchased a pair of Adidas F50 tunit footy boots (£99.99) son wore them for approx half an hour, during that time 4 studs came off, quite rightly he stopped play and when back at home we checked the threads on the boot and the studs (come with about 2 alternative sets that you can change!) we both agreed that the boot itself was faulty, so off to the store we did go.We have had experience with these type of boots before and are aware that you have to be very careful with the thread on them. Fun time began, firstly I went to choose an alternative pair, but all the stock levels were awful, finally decided to ask for a refund. The 'manager' had been checking these boots and said he could find no fault. A disagreement then pursued as I said unless he put them on and ran around, all the studs would seem ok by twisting them with his hand. He then said they should not be used on an astro turf. This is wrong as that is the purpose of interchangeable studs. After approx half an hour of disagreement and a smirk from a shop assistant I have been fobbed off and told I could try another store as they may have more stock in!! They couldnt exchange them as they had no more left. He offered me a credit note but what could I spend that on when they had no sizes in that I required. I was also given a customer services form to contact head office. Whilst reading these forums am I right in understanding that with the receipt I am within 7 days of purchase and I feel and they are faulty that I am entitled to a refund. Seriously at the end of my tether now. As usual shops dont mind taking the cash but no after sales care whatsoever. My contract is surely with the store, I feel he is basically calling us a liar, my son also feels that whilst we spent time looking for alternative boots and the other ones where at the desk how do we know that he actually checked them.

We had this problem with cycle direct (I believe they are part of the same company)

Purchased 2 x cycles, took them out and within 30 mins we narrowly avoided an accident as the gears sheared from one bike, buckling the chain and damaging all the paint work. The phone service was appalling, the outcome was less than satisfactory, they replaced the damaged parts in the end with some of extremely poor quality this was after them stating we were at fault several times and being generally rude, difficult to get hold of, losing emails, letters and photos.

We purchased replacement parts online that were of a suitable quality, but I will no longer give this chain any of my business.
  • thanks for your reply, bit of success, I stuck to my guns, printed off a copy of the consumer rights from a googled page and went back the next day. We went through each stud and whilst it was not falling off there and then the manager could finally see that very shortly with wear and tear it would be faulty. Just a warning out there to anyone wanting to purchase from this chain, they will fight to the bitter end not to give you a refund, dont be fobbed off with a 'contact to head office' rubbish. Your contract is with them!!!
