Phillips Dect Phone Problem

I have just purchased a Phillips Onis Vox 300 cordless DECT answer phone. I have connected everything up and the batteries are fully charged but I get no dial tone and the phone want ring. I have checked everything read the manual a few times.
The only thing I can think of is perhaps it’s not compatible with a ntl cable line?
Any one else with one of these phones? any problems when you set it up?
If all else fails I will contact the Phillips helpline on their premium number in the week.
