Arghhh what can i do.........help ideas

I know this is short notice

Its my Daughters birthday tommorrow shes 11 ,(my god how time flies).

She has invited a gang of friends round for tea, thats ok.. I can easily manage to knock up a "buffet" style tea etc.. my problem is how to keep about 12 kids (ages 6-12 ,mixed sex group ) occupied!!! without banning them all to her bedroom!!!

the older lads ok... chuck a football at em and send in garden...

Its the girls....... im clueless...

Heres the other problem ,.. my daughter told them all it was a party!!!!!

like everything else she doesnt listen... i told her to say " come for birthday tea".. but daughter knows best......... lol

so now am I expected to do party stuff or will kids accept that theres no party things- IE bags.. balloons etc... because i cant afford it.. ive got a Tenner to my name, which i need for food and pop..., i cant even afford to buy her present till tuesday... (i feel so bad)...

Help quick easy ideas.. and less cost the better

Thanks in Anticipation

Is there a park nearby where you could have a picnic? Depending on the weather of course. Take a ball etc. to amuse themselves, pass the parcel, other games (she'll probably have a few ideas).

when I was a kid, my uncle would 'compere' all of our birthday parties, with mad, but v cheap games. My personal fave was 'the bog roll game' - which literally involved 2 teams, each wrapping one person head to toe in bog roll, to see who could do it fastest without breaking the roll :D Great fun.

Couple of boxes (small ones) smarties and wrap up for pass the parcel - they are not too expensive and also music for dancing goes down a treat too

There are a few threads on here about birthday parties, if you use the search function. I can't find it yet but Penny-Pincher!! did one recently for her daughter's birthday.

For really cheap party food, keep it simple and forget buffet style - kids will love hot dogs. Do you have access to an Iceland or a market? All you need is a giant pack of sausages, loads of finger rolls and a bottle of ketchup. A few cheap 2 litre bottles of pop and maybe a large vat of cheap ice-cream for pudding. Don't worry too much about quality, the kids won't - remember that there's no such thing as a 'bad meal', only a 'bad diet' - you can get away with serving up cheap food for one party.

If you have any spare make-up or old face paints then letting them make each other up will be fun. If they don't like 'girly' stuff then you could have a theme, like 'clowns' or 'horror' face make up.

Loads of games can be arranged using just a CD/cassette player and an empty space - eg musical statues, dance competition, etc.

Finish with a video to keep them quiet for an hour.

    Hope it goes well......

Sorry forgot to say.. only 1 six yr old.. rest all 11-12.. so "party games" are a bit too young... theyve out grown them...

And ive only got a Tiny living room......... im hoping and praying it doesnt rain so can go outside..

Like the idea of "bog roll game" il def do that.. ( i get my loo rolls free.. (extra pennies saved) thanks

the food isnt an issue.. thats sorted.. Im a master at buffet style teas... its what to do with lads n girls...

If you can get hold of a large brown bag (local Homebase have them, for example) - or failing that, a homemade large paper bag - fill it with scrunched up newspaper and some small bags of sweets (Lidl do a party mix for about a quid with lots of little bags in) or even loose sweets. Decorate the outside of the bag with fringed paper or tissue paper. Tie some string round the top and suspend it from the ceiling. Unscrew the handle from your broom as a bashing stick. Hey presto, home-made pinata. Takes them ages to destroy and was the most popular thing at my daughter's party - everyone wanted to bash it. If you can't work out what I'm talking about, there's better instructions at http://www.dltk-kids.com/world/mexico/simple_paper_bag_pinata.htm

I was going to suggest this - in my experience you cant get girls off of the kareoke.
