service agreement.
I am about to buy a car.
I have been offered a service agreement whereby i pay 16.17 per month for 28 months - interest free to cover 3 services whilst it is still under warranty, and an MOY at 3 years. Now i personally think this is a good deal.
But does anyone know if these agreements are transferrable if say i had an accident and wrote the car off in a years time.

The only Service "agreement" I know of is the BMW Pre Paid one where you pay up front and there are three levels to chose from.
Going back to your question - you have to ask your self will you be keeping the car for three years to make the most of the service plan? Bearing in mind that most cars these days will do 30,000 between services. So in three years and you may have only ever needed one service. Which at £16 per month for 28 months adds up quite a lot for what could be ONE oil and filter change...0 -
I can't say if that is a good deal or not. Cars vary hugely with regards to servicing costs. What car is it? I gather that you are purchasing it from brand new?Genie

It has to have a service every year (or 10K miles) in line with the warranty.
My Aygo Sport had only 18K miles on it (at its 3rd service) but i still had to have a yearly service to keep the warranty vailid.
The new to us car is a 2009 Corsa design registered in May 09 with only 18 miles on the clock
We have every intention of keeping it for at least 4 years but my original question was if i totalled the car after say 1 year would i still be liable to pay the full amount or could it be transferred to a replacement vehicle.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

You will have to do some sums! Re the Aygo - I can comment on the service prices for those as I work for Toyota/Lexus independent garage. First and third services come out at around £95 as they are small ones, the second is approx £110 to £120. After the warranty is out, we service as 'necessary' - we won't replace anything unless it needs it, so not wasting the customers money!
Re the Corsa - well Vauxhall parts are very reasonable and I cannot see that it would be any more than the Aygo to be honest. Look for hidden charges. They sometimes quote a service and then say the brake fluid change (for example) will cost X amount more....
Do your research before you lock into something. Knowing what the car is now, I don't think that is a particularly good deal.Genie

I've just taken out a Vauxhall service agreement, at 18.99, and I was told it was transferable or able to be cancelled at any time.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Is that working out at about £200 per service per year for the first three years of the cars life?Money_Grabber13579 wrote: »I've just taken out a Vauxhall service agreement, at 18.99, and I was told it was transferable or able to be cancelled at any time.
I hate to be a pain, but I think that is alot of money for servicing, especially when they are new.Genie

Yeah, it works out around £220 a year, and as far as I'm aware, the servicing would cost around £150, maybe up to £200 in it's 3rd year.
But then I also get a courtesy car when mine's being serviced, and also have the full AA cover, should I need it, either in the UK or in the rest of Europe.
So on the whole, it's probably not either a good deal, or a bad deal, if you know what I mean! Just an alternative way of paying really!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
In my experience the service agreements can be cancelled and transfered. we have ones at work with VW and skoda and I have one with audi. Its an easy enough question to ask your dealer.
The best thing to do re value for money is but whatcar magazine, it lists the anticipated service cost for every new car over 30000 miles and three years.0 -

Are you sure you will be paying over 3 years though.
My service agreement, although it covers for 3 years, there are only 28 payments of £16.42 making a total of £453.01 for 3 years cover.
Thanks for all your input. I will ask at the garage how much the service costs are and whether it can becancelled and take it from there.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
