  • They are well known in the USA.
  • Could you wait a bit longer? I mean, it may seem like a good deal now, but in six months you will find it considerably out-dated, with the release of Windows 7 and all that...

Try this or this one for size.

The first one needs at least an extra GB of RAM.

Have you a link to the specs of the Gateway?

Gateway almost got to be competitors with Dell in the UK about 10 years or so ago, but then they faded away.
I am always dubious about the use of the words "refurbished" and "reconditioned" when applied to computers and especially laptops - I don't think it means much at all.

Spend another £20 and get a 17" screen.

Would that not defeat the purpose of buying it as a christmas present - buying it in february??

Also, every new laptop will be considerably outdated in six months time, ad infinitum

Fair enough, I should of said a 'few' months time...

But still, a £270 PC bough in a few months time will almost certainly be better specced than a £270 PC bought now...

Gateway are owned by Acer now.
I wonder if their computers still come in black & white cow-patterned boxes?
