The limit on quantities is on hand luggage, it's fine to take larger bottles in your suitcase. You can't take a lighter on the plane in your handluggage, it'll get confiscated. Edit - just read my own link and it looks like one lighter is ok to take on board.
Have a look at this, and check with your specific airline if you're still not sure.

And if you've got shampoo, liquids etc in your suitcase, make sure it's in a plastic bag. Nothing worse than arriving and finding the whole lot's squirted all over your clothes! All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
You can take shampoo, toothpaste deoderant, etc in your check-in luggage however do not pack any aerosol cans. As far as lighters go it is 50/50 whether they will take them off you. It seems to depend on the person who checks you at security. I normally do carry a lighter in my hand carry bag and put it through the x-ray machine and they have never picked it out yet.
Make sure any liquids you have going through security are in a clear plastic bag. You cannot carry quantities over 100ml. After security you can purchase duty free alcohol, perfumes, etc. You must clear security first.

You can take any size or quantity of liquids in you hold/checked baggage, but only containers less than 100mls in your hand luggage. And you can takes aerosols in your checked baggage up to a total of 2 kgs.
As for lighters, you should check the airport's own website, but the last time I checked you were allowed one lighter per person which had to be carried on your person and not in your hand luggage. No lighters at all in checked baggage so if you buy cigs when you are away that come with free lighters, you will have to dump them.0 -

Not quite sure what it's got to do with Ryanair.

Me too you just have to remember if they are brand new to spray them to release the pressure before packing them.0 -

Didn't quite catch which part of darkest Africa you were travelling to. It must be a part where they don't sell shampoo etc. (they probably the same brands cheaper than in UK).0
