Unsettled CCJs can I get mortgage

This is my first post so I hope it's in the right place.

Basically just wanted some advise about unsettled CCJs. I believe I have several unsettled CCJ's too scared to look at my credit file. I gained these over 7 years ago and have not heard from the creditors for years now. I think the CCJs may total aroung £15-16k (HP agreement on a car - which was also repossessed).

With the above in mind, just wondered if I could get a mortgage from anywhere, probably a silly question I know!

The time passed will help but I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

If you're too scared to look at your credit file I'd suggest a mortgage is not what you need right now.

Check your credit file and see exactly what you are up against!

No point worrying until you know for sure what you got to worry about!! :)

How much deposit do you have saved up?
  • If the ccj's were over 7 years ago they will have dropped off your credit file altogether by now and won't show anymore.

I'd agree that until you see what your file is showing then there's no point applying and just 'hoping for the best' really.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

If they are unsettled then the lender can reregister them, in practice I'm not sure if they do.

also make a note of which lenders you hvaent paid back as one chap recently found out RBS knocked him back for a mortgage due to an internal marker over a loan that wasnt repaid previously

    Hi Andy

Thanks for your reply - I have about £20k that I can use as a deposit.

The thing that scares me about my getting my credit file, wouldn't the creditors that i owe money to be able to locate me and begin chasing for the unpaid debt?

Might be a good idea to contact the creditors and pay the debts and clear your name.
If you have £20k and owe £15-£16k still leaves you something, then just knuckle down and save.House prices are NOT going up much(if any) in the next 2-3 yrs...Don't listen to estate agent ramping the markets up,its not gonna happen.FTB ers are needing to save 20-35% deposit to get a decent rate so that will take time.
