Hi everyone, I have an ING savings account that I setup with a debit card, and have a bit of money in it but I have to transfer money in manually. Can I add a Halifax current account (my wages are paid into this) so that I can setup a monthly savings that transfer say £100 automatically each month ? I have looked on the ING site and all I can see is this.....
Please note: if you would like to transfer money into your Savings Account from an external account that is currently not linked to your ING Direct Savings Account, please quote the following information to the relevant financial institution:-
Now I have looked on my Halifax online banking and I wont allow me to transfer into an ING account, only other debit accounts. I will call them when they are next open if you guys cannot help me, thanks.
Happy new year to all here at MSE.

Somebody can correct me if I am wrong, but I think ING need you to send them a cheque on any account you need to transfer funds from/to. So the first step would be to send them such a cheque leaf (cancelled of course) and then set up the transfer instruction for a regular transfer of whatever funds you want into the ING account. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0

You should be able to set up a standing order on the Halifax site; I haven't tried it but I can't really see why they wouldn't transfer funds to ING.

6) How do I make ongoing deposits or transfer funds from a non linked external account?
You can make ongoing deposits into your account 24 hours a day by using our interactive telephone banking service or by using the internet. Why not set up a monthly Regular Saver to take the hassle out of saving regularly?
To do this, call Customer Services on 0845 603 8888.
Our lines are open
Monday - Friday 7am - 11pm
Saturday - Sunday 9am - 9pm
You can also send cheques to us, made payable to yourself. Please write your account number on the front of your cheque, after your name.
In addition, if you would like to transfer money electronically from an external account that is not currently linked to your ING Direct Savings Account, please quote the following to the relevant financial institution:-
Sort Code: 40-61-98
Account Number: Please quote your account number, not your customer number
Address: ING Direct
410 Thames Valley Park Drive

g'day all,
walletwatch is correct, you have to send a cheque for minimum of £1 into the ing direct account from the account that you want to 'link', hence, your halifax account. this cheque has to be written out to yourself and then you can set up your halifax 'third party payment, of a standing order of e.g.£100 a month. should work, there customer service is decent, so if u get a little bit confused, give them a bell,
hope this helps.0 -

Yorkshireboys info (at the bottom) gives you everything you need to know. If you bank online you can set up the regular payment / standing order online - its very easy.
I (Mrs Cloud_dog) has an account with ING and one of the really useful features I like is the ability to quickly and easily setup sub-accounts within the main one. We now have regular payments / SO set up to go to the different accounts.

Thanks for your replys everyone. I have looked through the Halifax site and did indeed find an option for standing order, the problem was I cannt do it from my current account (the one my wages are paid into) Still this is better than nothing, I will contact HR at work and get the acount that my wages paid into changed. The thing that threw it for me is I cant send a cheque from my current account and couldnt see the option for standing order from that account also, a current account seems pretty useless, but I have had it sence I was about 7!!!0

No chequebook with your current account? There is no way you can set up a direct debit to ING without one unfortunately. I asked ING about this but they are inflexible. But I'm confused about this, since you cannot open an ING account without a current account [with chequebook] in the first place. I can only assume that you wish to add a secondary account ???
A standing order to ING is a different matter however. You can pay into ING from as many third party accounts as you want.
As a last thought, [e.g. for people who just want to use the phone avoiding the internet] it should be possible to have wages [etc] paid direct to ING and to arrange for regular amounts to be drawn off to your linked current account. All you would do is quote your ING details - as mentioned above - to your employer......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0
