Sell my car (van) - no buyers - what to do?

Hi.

I'm trying to sell my 4x4 Terrano, which is actually a van. It has no seats in the back and so no company car tax.

I have spent £200 advertising it with Autotrader (the biggest outlet) and the local Birmingham Mail.

I just can't sell the bl00dy thing! I dropped the price by another £1,000 so it is really cheap and only covered 7000 miles!

What on earth is a person to do? I need it gone. Shot. Goodbye.

I'm pulling my hair out here - should I auction it? Fees too high? It will go for nothing, I'm sure.

Has anyone else tried to sell and just... gave up? Or gave it away?

You can advertise for free on http://www.honestjohn.co.uk in Classifieds.

You can auction it with a reserve price, so it'll only cost time & an entry fee - £40ish.

E bay seems a favourite for most things these days.

Are you advertising it as a van - or a 4x4 vehicle - different sections within the Autotrader & similar places might be aiming at the wrong customer.

You need a builder/farmer to see it, rather than someone looking for a small van.

Exactly - I advertised it in Autotrader in the 4 x 4 section on the advice of their follow-up calls and "double" offers. He was wrong - everyone asked why no seats in the back.

And yes the only interested people are farmers and builders!

I did put it on Ebay for a week to start with at a BIN price, not an auction. 4 watchers but no sales. In my experience, Ebay is not good for sellers. Yes the coverage is huge, but often people don't go the extra inch to actually make the offer at these sums. This option remains in reserve.

If yourself or anyone can shift this perfect van then I'll pay a commission!

I mean, what is wrong with people? They phone up, ask a load of questions and don't ring back. Or they repeat: "what will you take for it".
2 buyers acquired my address, then lurked by the van for a quick look, and quickly ran off before they have to speak to the seller.
Witheld number, any trick but making a solid offer. I despair!

There is nothing wrong with the vehicle - it is excellent, but not enough interest....

Depending where you are in the country - pleanty BCA or Manheim auction centres - but these people are THE 4x4 auctioneers.

maybe worth asking their opinion on what it might fetch in their sales.

& now I've seen the Autotrader ad, no reason it shouldn't sell - other than most buyers looking to part with nearly £10000 willhave another vehicle to sell/trade in/need finance... or just be tyre kickers!!

I'll let you know if anyone is interested on my travels, but don't hold your breath, as they say!!
