  • Soyamilk Makers - wow. Never knew these existed. Am thinking about it for my daughter who seems to not care which brand of unsweetened soya milk she has (currently Tesco Value) - would I make it with just milk and soya beans, or need to add some vanilla or something to make it taste "right" ?

We were used to unsweetened soya and just use beans and water. I have read comments from people who were used to sweetened milk who have tried all sorts of things to sweeten it. I'd probably use apple juice in it if I wanted to make it sweeter but we don't bother.

If you have a search there are threads about soya milk makers.

Cool - thanks ! think she'd be fine with just beans and water then, and I'd loose my guilt for buying Value milk for her ... I just wonder what else in there to make it so cheap ...

Hi, what do people make of 7.99 for a 3.5 litre round slow cooker for sale at Asda?
(I wish i wasn't aweful with numbers and could remember the full price cost or brand). Perhaps some one else has seen it?

Thanks for the heads up. I've been without a slow cooker for a wee while now, since OH ran cold water into the hot crock pot of mine and cracked it. It's been in the back of my mind to buy another one but smaller than the 6.5L monster I had before. This one (Asda, £15 reduced to £7 in my branch) looked ideal so I went and bought one this morning.

I don't think the basic ones really vary much, tbh...they're just a pot with a heating element under.

I've got a 3.5l oval SC and it fits a medium chicken. It's a squash so you'd struggle to fit anything bigger. I think a 3.5l round one would probably be too small.

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, and after reading countless threads on OS, I used it for the first time yesterday, We had a beef casserole which I switched on at about 9.30, veg in the bottom, meat on top and about a pint of thin oxo gravy. I put dumplings in at about 4.30 and it was all ready for 5pm (I thickened the gravy in a pan on the hob), It was absolutely lovely and everything was cooked just right. Today I have cooked a medium chicken (smart price £2.26) and it was the most tender chicken I have tasted. I'm really pleased with my bargain !
  • i bought one on sunday.
    got my lamb shanks today.
    cooking them tomorrow....am excited!! :)
