Hi, what do people make of 7.99 for a 3.5 litre round slow cooker for sale at Asda?
(I wish i wasn't aweful with numbers and could remember the full price cost or brand). Perhaps some one else has seen it?

frugal mum - i'm glad the price doesnt necessasarily affect quality :0)
i should have said that i'm thinking of it for a friend's birthday...(is that odd?)i've got one (present from family, 19.99 in new years sale, oval), and really enjoy using it since finding all the help on here!
my friend is vegan, so it wont matter that it's round (no issues with fitting joints into it)Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. I picked one up last night, it costs £7 and is asda own brand.
Haven't tried it yet. I bought it as the 6.5 litre one I have, can at times, be too big.

There are other makes/kinds out there and they can cost less than that one or more depending on what you want (raw and heated milks or only heated milks). Many soya milk makers will make nut milks/rice milks etc as well. They may seem expensive but when you look at how cheap soya beans are and everything you save a lot of money. Making a litre of soya milk is around 15p instead of paying 65p+ in the shops. As you can see it is a big difference.
As for the slow cooker OP as you say with her being vegan it won't matter what shape it is. It will probably be a very good gift. Things like home made rice pudding (made with a plant milk) are very good in slow cookers as are home made vegetable stews with vegan dumplings (vegetable suet instead of animal really). I'm sure a 3.5L will do her fine and for the price it's rather a no brainer.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
thanks Doom and Gloom for the info on both topics
i'm gonna have to look in to the soya milk thing - that's very extreem vegan practice i'm sure, but as we've considered making our own seitan, i'm sure it could be the next thing!Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Off topic but we make our own soya milk in a soyquick premier, it means we get organic soya milk for a low price. Plus I can't tolerate the additives in some brands of soya milk and we live quite remotely so this way we can just store beans which take up less space than cartons.Piglet

What's the wattage on the slow cookers?
OH bought me one from Mr M's recently for about £20 but it's quite low wattage.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -

How big a slow cooker do I need to cook a whole medium chicken ?
Soyamilk Makers - wow. Never knew these existed. Am thinking about it for my daughter who seems to not care which brand of unsweetened soya milk she has (currently Tesco Value) - would I make it with just milk and soya beans, or need to add some vanilla or something to make it taste "right" ?0
