im about to get into a vicious recurring charges cycle with my bank so need to move my bank account so i can have benefits (income support and dla) paid somewhere without loosing them all to charges. (they will be claimed back)
the article ont he main site about best bank accounts, well they seem to all need over a certain income. is there a best account that doesnt require a set monthly income? i dont want an overdraft but do need to be able to pay direct debits, would like maestro card and need online banking facilities.
are they all much of a muchness? or is there one i should try first?

I would suggest Halifax Easycash (comes with Electron) or the NatWest Step Account (comes with Visa Debit)0

As well as the Halifax Easycash and Natwest Step account. I would recommend the Barclays Cash Card Account and RBS Key Account. It comes with a VISA debit card.
I would avoid Halifax Easycash, as it has 'limited' branch service.
For the Barclays account mentioned above, you only need a UK passport or driving license. This counts as proof of name and address.0 -
thanks
would the account im about to hit trouble with being a natwest current account cause problems with the rbs account since they are the same group?
is there such a thing as balance transferring overdrafts form one bank account to another?0 -

Not sure about you first questions. However, if you want to be safe, go with another bank. I recommend Barclays, as mentioned above.
I don't think there is such thing as a 'balance transferring of overdrafts'. However, I do know when a customer opens a new account at some banks, the new account could have an overdraft that match the amount of overdrat of the other account you hold.0
