Can EDF decline a part payment if I am in arrears

Options
Unknown to myself at the time, yesterday Baliffs attended my home stating that I was in arears to teh value of circa £600.

Now not having the money to cover this in full, I have offered a part payment through a debit card of £200 and have aksed whether EDF would then breakdown the remaining charges over a set period of time agreed with EDF.

They have declined this and I wonder if I were just to send a payment of £200, where woudl I stand?

Any help appreciated.

I am no expert, but surely before the bailiffs were called in you must have had many letters, including court documents?

That was when you should have offered some sort of payment deal when you attended Court

No doubt someone will come along who knows

If they don't agree a payment plan with you they will continue debt collection procedures which will involve changing your meter to prepayment, if you pay £200 it will mean the debt loaded onto the prepay meter will be reduced by £200 it will not stop the meter being fitted. Also if you are not in when they try and change the meter they will break in and charge you about £2-300 for the pleasure of doing this.

You will have also been charged about £30 for your recent visit.

You need to act on this quickly by coming to a payment arrangement with EDF as you have previously missed payments and left bills unpaid they are unlikely to offer you any further credit so will want full payment or you to move to a prepayment meter.

If you make a payment of £200, your arrears will come down by this much. It doesn't mean they will agree to set you up on a paymnt arrangement, but at least if you pay this it will show willing. They can't refuse you making a payment on your account.

The position is you owe £600 and EDF are not prepared to accept £200 to delay any action against you.

As said above you can pay £200 and that will simply reduce your debt to £400 plus whatever expenses incurred by EDF to date(court order, baliffs etc)

Presumably you have ignored all the letters from EDF or their Debt Collection Agency?
