Hi Techie Guys

Please bear with me if this is a stupid question but I don't know the answer and I'm hoping someone else does.

A couple of days ago whilst on the internet (Internet Explorer on Vista) a message flashed up about a Trojan virus. I closed IE and all programs and did a whole disk scan using my McAfee free software - it found 2 trojan virus which it said were located in google chrome (toolbar I think?).

So I selected to put them in the virus vault and it showed them as cleaned or cleared of whatever words it uses. I then restarted the computer and did another full computer scan which came back clean.

Finally to the question - do I need to worry that any of my computer data / online passwords (for banking etc) could have been compromised? Could the virus have been there for a while?

Thanks

  • Without knowing the exact trojan you were infected with, it is hard to know what risk it presents. Were you not given more info by McAfee?

I assume you are running full security software all the time? (anyone who does not deserves to have all their passwords sniffed!)

    Hi

I'm back on that computer now - just realised its AVG not McAfee, but yes the software runs all the time - the info on the infection in the virus vault say Trojan Horse Proxy.AHIY and its says it was in file path ...Google Toolbar\Google ToolbarUser.exe

? Does that give any more info? Might have been wrong about the Chrome bit, as now I look I can't find a reference to it.
