Depends on which part of north Wales!! I'd really recommend hiring a car if you can afford it, but I'm assuming not.
If coming from the north-west, I think there's a coach that runs from Bangor to Cardiff, via Aber/Carmarthen/Swansea/Bridgend and takes all day. From there, you can only get the train as far as Abergavenny (once or twice an hour, takes about 45 minutes) and presumably then a bus via the villages to Monmouth, which is about 10-12 miles east. The local tourist information centre should be able to help with scheduling your journey.
If you are coming from north-east Wales, I don't know where to begin, but it probably involves a train via Crewe, Birmingham and Gloucester and a bus from Lydney, which is right on the Severn estuary. It's on a really pretty route from Gloucester... until you get to the outskirts of Newport, of course!
Either way, tourist information is probably your best bet. Call them on 01600 713899.Mortgage at outset (May 2004): £80,000

Ydi hon yn ffordd hawsach na Yr Amwythig etc
Dwi yn cymeryd fod dim angen mynd dros y Brecon Beacons/
Diolch0 -
A470 yw'r prif ffordd rhwng y Gogledd a'r De: os ych chi'n mynd ger Amwythig, byddwch yn pasio Birmingham a Chaerwrangon ar yr M54/M6/M5/M50/A40 sydd yn brysur iawn i gyd. Gwell i chi aros yng Nghymru, nage?
Mae lot o arwyddion "Men at work" (a dim lot o ddynion na gwaith i'w gweld!) ar hyn o bryd. Gyrrais i lawr i Abertawe wythnosau 'nôl ac mae gwaith ar yr M5 yn Tewkesbury, M50/A40 yn Ross ac ar yr A40 yn Nhrefynwy. Roedd yr oedi'n wael. Mae gwaith hefyd ger Wolverhampton - gallwch weld yr AA ar y wê?Mortgage at outset (May 2004): £80,000
