Keyboard problems

I am hoping someone can help! I bought a new Dell laptop a couple of weeks ago (loaded with Vista) and I am having keyboard problems. When I use Microsoft office etc. everything is fine. However, when I try to complete online forms or type messages on the internet, e.g. on sites like this or even hotmail I have keyboard problems. It is almost as if the webpage is not recognising what I am typing in. It is not just slow, I have to actually almost hammer the keys for it to recognise it. As I say I have no problems using word and I have had to resort to writing emails and responses on word and then cutting and pasting them into web forms/sites etc. Any ideas on what the problem might be? Thanks!

  • Check first the accessibility options in Control Panel and make sure nothing is ticked. It could be a thing with 'sticky keys', and so if you for instance press shift 5 times in a row, apparently that turns this feature on...totally stupid!

I'm having a mare at home with our keyboard not typing anything in order, number lock appearing to be stuck, scroll lock appearing to be stuck, home key appearing to be stuck...and it's not a virus according to every site I've checked this morning.

I'm off out in a mo to buy a new keyboard and mouse as Vista doesn't like older wireless sets (gah)...in fact I think Vista is terrible, full of bugs and this seems to be a common problem!

I hate sticky keys you not have to press the shift 5 times just hold it down long enough to register 5 presses which as we all know hold a key down it reads eg, a a aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. With a few seconds so if your a shift hold, look, press other key, you probably turned sticky keys on, which I have never found or understand any real practical use other than wasting your time trying to figure out how to tuen the thing off

I told Microsoft Vista stank and XP was probably the best thing they have made since DOS, which they replied " we are sorry you are disappoined with Vista"

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I am probably being really dumb. I have found the control panel but I can’t find the accessibility options you mention – can you point me in the right direction? Thanks

Hmm, I'm at work right now and guess what? All such jollity is banned....we can't access our control panels!

I think if you click Keyboard (in your control panel) then there should be some options in there to uncheck.

There should also be an Accessibility Options in the control panel, and in there is probably an option to configure the keyboard, and sticky keys, and to turn them off! Sorry I can't help more at the minute, cos I don't have it in front of me!

Anyway, I got myself a nice new Logitech wireless set from the Laminated Shop Of Dreams ;) for £13....good old Argos Clearance website linky from MSE :D:D

Nah, problem doesn't seem to be sticky keys. Anymore ideas anyone?
  • If you have a USB keyboard try plugging that in and see if you still have the problem on it.

Thanks. Have tried it with a USB keyboard and just using the laptop keyboard and problem is the same using either. I originally thought it might be the USB keyboard, but unfortunately it happens using the laptop keyboard as well. It looks like it is mystery – it only happens when using web based pages.
  • What about when using a different browser, ( IE, firefox, chrome etc) does the problem persist with all?
