Have the kids been abroad before? Presumably the mother holds the cards in this deal...errr I mean Passports....

I am envisaging the exact same problem next year, as we did this year, and last year with my partner's ex wife.

All agreed to go on camping holiday in the UK with SS, and then at 11am on the day, she refused him to go (2008)

2009 - 11pm the night before, she refused him to go.
(12 y.o. boy not allowed to sleep in a tent !!!!!!!!!!)

We're planning to go to Europe next year so she'll have to stop playing silly !!!!!!s now and hand over the passport!
  • Thanks for all the replies.
Looks like I'm going to have to talk to her then. :(

I'm planning on taking them to Florida in November or December. I think they already have their own passports. They're 8 and 6.

Sounds good, they're just the right age.

Not sure - was thinking that perhaps if he had no contact with you she may not even have had contact details for him and it may just not have been relevant to inform him let alone get his permission - i.e. would he have known/been aware that you were out of the country?

Also I guess depending on whether they were married or not he may not have legally had parental responsibility for you at the time

Guess it depends on a variety of factors - your mam obviously didn't consider it relevant so neither should you :)

    Always the best plan ...

It sounds as if you're planning to take them out of school then. Best check the school and local authority policy on taking children out of school for holidays, or you could both end up facing a hefty fine!

Sounds like she's got the passports then? Better check...if the kids don't have passports then you'll have to get moving on the applications. And you'll need her to sign the application forms.
    Val.
  • if the OP has pr then he doesnt need the mother to sign the application he just needs to put mothers name and dob
