The real difference between a DSI and a DS lite?

It's DS's birthday on SUnday and I am loathe to buy him a DSI because the DS Lite is still available and cheaper of course. I'm told it has a camera but he has one of these as well.

Is it really worth the extra £50 especially as he got the DS Lite for his birthday last year and managed to completely kill it

I would say no . The camera is rubbish , no real dsi games out yet , the browser is opera with limited flash support , who uses aac for music . the chances are at best the build quality will be the same as a ds lite

I have a normal lite on and my boyf has the DSI (which i bought for him) He was so excited to get it but does not use any of the extras...even he says it was pointless getting him the DSI instead of the Lite. The camera was a novelty at first, changing peoples faces green etc....but that was only for about a day!!

Thanks guys. I ended up rushing out of the door almost as soon as I posted - should have left more time! I did buy the DSI but the grandparents have contributed now as well so he's understood that the DSI is more expensive and as a result he's got less presents.

If I'd posted before I actually needed to buy it, I would have been convinced with my gut feeling which was not to bother with the DSI but to buy the DS Lite.

This one is insured at least!

Ahh thanks for asking the question. I've been debating this myself for DS Christmas pressie.

My main concerns are - is the screen any bigger? Is the screen quality any different?

I'm not too bothered about the camera.

Plus i was thinking if i get the cheaper one now, then it leaves another present option for next year if he ever wanted an upgrade lol

the screen is noticably bigger and brighter. I would not bother to upgrade, but if buying new then personally would go for the DSi.

There is not a great deal (if any) DSi specific games at the moment, but some games are coming out with extra DSi content.

Surfing the internet, though slowly and with limited apps avilable is OK, I use it to check my facebook pages for example. and the free "flipnotes" software that can be downloaded is fun to fiddle with. http://www.nintendodsi.com/flipnotestudio.jsp

Does the new DSI not have a GBA slot so you cant use games like Guitar Hero etc ???

There is no GBA slot. so you cannot play guitar hero with the add-on. There is a Guitar hero "clone" that can be played using the key, but can't remember what is't called.

I use facebook mobile so the service is about the same as if using a mobile phone to access the site. You can view the full site but it is a bit sluggish.
