Hi all
Need your opinions please.
A friend of mine is currently looking at purchasing in Hightown, Luton.
His asking me for my opinion but unfortunately I dont know the area much, if any at all. I live in east london.
So what I'm asking is do any of you on here live or know that area much?
What are your opinions of the properties there and how liveable is the area?
His looking at buying a 3 bed house between £120k - £140k.
Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks

We've just bought in Luton, 6 weeks ago, and its not as bad as people make out. Its good for commuting, even though the M1 roadworks are hammering our commute at the moment. Insurance prices are very high compared other areas, so thats worth checking. Its also a town which you will depend on your car or a taxi if you want to go to the supermarket or the pub!
I'm not sure on High Town, as I've not heard about that part before, but for 120-140k you can't complain!0 -
Thanks Altarf/Keith
Went to see a house there after work on Friday and on the way back I had to use the M1. So I understand fully what you mean by the roadworks hammering your commute. These 40mph average speed cameras did add quite a bit of time!!!
The property looks ok. That street mainly has 2 beds but this one was a 3 bed terrace. The asking price was comparable to the recent 2 bed sales (obviously havent been able to comapre the interior!!!). There did seem to be quite a bit of "regenaration" going on!!! Like you say, you cant complain at that price, or can you!!!!
Does the area not have many bus routes? That could be a problem, but the town centre and train station are 5-10mins walking distant away!!!
I didnt see any evidence of crime & drugs but the area did seem a bit "creepy" and this is coming from someone whose from east london!!!:D
Anyway, anymore locals care to share there opinions!!!Debt at highest (November 2005) = £35,856

Ah, I'm glad you ask. High Town is actually very nice, believe it or not. My Partner and I moved here two years ago, lived in SW London before and could not afford anything halfway decent in the city. First, it seemed a bit seedy and strange, and there were some youth hanging around a phonebox, but I soon discovered, they are completely harmless! Hey, it's nothing compared to London! And have you heard about all the regeneration that will be pumped into High Town? Over the whole of Luton, around 2 BILLION! Now that can't be bad! It's a super place to live, great mix of people, unpretentious, and amazing countryside 5 minutes drive away. I can only congratulate on ypour decision to give it a chance!0

Nothing to do with Hightown as it is now, but my dad - age 79 - grew up there in a terraced house with an outside loo at the top of the yard, shared with another house! I remember going to visit my granny there and the name instantly brought back memories0
