Freeview Reception

Hi

just moved into my new home, for the first month Ive had my freeview box wired up to a 14" portable, in the main reception was good and i got 86 channels - including ITV etc

Just tryed to tune it into my big TV now ive moved it in - only get 43 channels, no ITV, Ch4 and others to mention

any ideas why? ive done a re-tune, checked seating of cables etc......

Does the big TV have its own integrated freeview tuner?

So it's the same freeview box ... connected to the same aerial?

If so, why did you retune?

The loss of channels is likely due to loss of signal. That could be because you had just enough signal strength in the first place to tune in but conditions have changed. For instance, if I rescan when it rains I pick up some channels with barely 1% signal quality. Any other time I scan I don't pick them up at all.

To solve the problem, you need to know what type of aerial you require.

The missing channels are broadcast on different MUXs and you can identify which are missing by knowing which you receive.

Similar thing happened to me. You need a wide band aerial to get all the free view channels, many older analouge aerials deleberiately had a narrow bandwidth to get better reception, wide band aerial available from maplin workrd for me.

Sorry but that is not true! If you click on the first link in imbru's post and enter your specific details, you will see what type of aerial is required. Freeview transponder frequencies have been slotted in between existing terrestrial channels and in some areas thay are out of the standard aerial channel groupings. A wideband aerial will always perform worst than an aerial designed for a specific group of frequencies, so only use a wideband if absolutely necessary in your location.

Try a signal booster. I recently just moved too. For some strange reason, my freeview box worked fine for 3 weeks then decided it wasn't able to pick up Channel 5 and some others stuttered a lot. Signal quality was hovering around 50%. I put an old signal booster on and its not 80% on most channels.

I think Argos are selling one for £4 at the moment.

I have NO techie type knowledge at all but just want to say that the reception on Freeview can be badly affected by weather and atmospheric conditions.

i dont understand any of that :-)

fair enough I may need a signal booster - however, when you logically think about it - i had a freeview connection (Via scart) to a 14" TV that gave 86 channels - put it into the back of a 28" tele and that goes down to 43 channels!

    WHY?
