Cheap External Hard Drives and Monitors?

:money:Hi I'm new here, I was just wondering if anyone knew any great deals, as I am absolutely terrible at searching on the internet. Thanks if you can. M.x:j

  • What size drive and monitor do you want?
  • I think it's 19 inches. I might just go get a ruler and measure the one I have now. Hold on!
  • It's actually 17 inches. :rotfl:
  • I tend to use ebuyer for my IT stuff (others who have had issues with customer service use scan.co.uk).

    Good reviews for this 17" monitor and it's under £90 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126874/show_product_reviews

What size hard drive do you want? Is it for backup (in which case you would want a traditional external hard drive) or for transferring documents (then a portable hard drive would be better as it doesn't need a power supply).

well most people over estimate its size. Someone said that a 17inch looks like a 19inch CRT monitor, because of the way the usable screen area is more effcient on LCDs. So you could get a 19inch and it will look like a 20-21inch. Depends what you want to use it for, For photo editing, movies and games , Bigger the size the better assuming resolution keeps up too.

  • I'm looking to buya hard drive so I can transfer all my things from my laptop to my new computer (which I hope to get next week).

Also I have a lot of music, so I am thinking of keeping my music on it if possible.

With reagrds to the screen, I need it for work, (I'm already using a second moniter with my laptop screen).

That monitor off ebuyer is already a bit pricey for me! But I guess if that's the general price I will have to fork out!

thanks for all your help by the way, much appreciated.
  • £90 for a 17" monitor is VERY good value. I'd be amazed if you find anything cheaper or better.
if you're not fussed on TFT then go to freecycle as there;s a load of the old CRT monitors on there from people upgrading to TFT

If you're really into photography, and care about colour and resolution, you'll have a much better picture with a CRT, even a free one off freecycle, than a cheapo LCD. 17, 19" and I've even see 21" screens being given away.
