thank you
But I have a feeling this may be wrong - someone else has suggested it might be the materials it is made from and often they seem to be "cash only"
I will go and see the estate agent tomorrow
Thanks again

It looks like it's a prefabricated house. The schindler chap is now dead, so it's not like he specifically designed it. More like he was the first to make use of prefab methods.
Usually prefabs were built after the war as short term housing. A lot of places are still around today. But they are unmortgagable because they were never designed to last 60 years. Basically, it could fall down...0 -
I think you're right - it's a construction method. The only thing I can find is that if it was built after 26th April 1984, it's considered defective under housing defects legislation and that it's a prefabricated reinforced concrete building.
These are a couple of quotes I aslo found
Schindler properties are a non-traditional construction using pre-reinforced concrete. In the early 1980s it was discovered that a long-term process known as "carbonisation" could over time reduce the structural life of certain types of pre-reinforced concrete homes.
It is generally acknowledged that the Schindler properties were designed to last for approximately 30 years, rather than the 50 years they have existed to date.
Doesn't sound great, does it?0 -
Unfortunately there are at least 3 Schindlers which appear in relation to construction:
The Rudolph mentioned previously who worked with Frank Lloyd Wright.
The lift company.
And the reinforced concrete system mentioned here:

which looks like what the OP is talking about.
Just seen the other posts while I've been Googleing, jenniferpa looks spot on with what I've found.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

I will leave it then.
Thank you all.
Shame because it is such a nice house
Thanks again
