How secure is Microsoft Exchange on iPhone 3gs?

Our IT guy at work thinks it would be easy to hack if he allowed access to my work emails on my iPhone 3gs, and would compromise the security of our network.

Is this the case? Any thoughts or opinions please.

Pretty much any way of connecting to Exchange can be hacked by someone who's determined enough. As always, it's a case of balancing the risk against the convenience. Will depend a lot on what the damage of messages being intercepted would be: if it's nuclear secrets you might not want to do Exchange over iPhone, if it's just emails about arranging the office Xmas party you might not care if you get hacked.

Ask to see the policy on mobile devices.

If it were my IT department, I would use Exchange ActiveSync to enforce the same policies as our Blackberries. It can enforce a password on the device, wipe it remotely, etc. How would you like the IT department to have the ability to wipe your iphone at any time?
