Using Strutural surveyor on house - will this be an issue with the insurance company

We had some building work done 2.5 yrs ago and were not confident that the builder did a good job - he employed a structural surveyor (proper company etc) to do various calculations for beams/etc but we have found out now that he was a friend of the builder and so again are not very confident in the work.
We have a few cracks (less then 1mm wide) in various places and phoned up a different strutural surveyor who indicated that if he was employed and then it was found you needed investigations on subsidence then the home insurance company would not be too happy about it if you had not told them you had employed a surveyor. We are wanting this investigation carried out to check the house over and maintain it.
If I call the insurance company and say I'm going to have a strutural surveyor come round will they think that just by empployee them that soomething is wrong with the house and put a marker of some sort against the insurance for any future (possible) claims ? I suppose I could call them anonymously to as the question which is probably going to be what I might do.
Anyone had a similar experience ?
