Thanks for your help
The reason I wanted that one or possibly another one was that it won some awards for speed and features
The netgear one you mentions doesn't have gigabyte ethernet unfortunately which I need fast ethernet between two pcs. I dont think its wireless n either0 -
It is wireless:NETGEAR DG834PN RangeMax ADSL 2+ Wireless MIMO Router
Another thing you wont get 1Gb speed with wireless for that you would need, 1Gb ethernet cards, and possible new ethernet cables Cat60 -
Thanks I got 1gb ethernet cards but that router only is RJ-45 10/100I have two pcs close to one another using ethernet. I understand I never got the full speed on wifi n I am planning on replacing pci wifi cards to wireless n.
I tried home plugs they were rubbish didn't work properly and these were one of the faster you could get at time last Christmas0 -
:P is there any reason why you want GB network, Are you transfering lots of files each day that are like 2+GB each etc./0

I transfer large files from my server to my other rig every few days I do a fair amount of video editing and keep backups on two pcs of video and other files, it isnt just the file size but how many files some are small some are big.0

I have a one of these - bought it a few weeks ago.
Firstly, the LAN ports are not Gb - they are normal 100Mb so don't expect Gb speed when transferring data between PCs. I do have a separate Gb switch and when both machines are using Gb ethernet card you do see a significant speed increase even without Jumbo frames.
In terms of wireless strength - I am getting a 54Mbps on my 'g' network and I am about 4m away going through one brick wall and ceiling (modem is upstairs and I'm downstairs). On my other laptop which is about 8 meters away I get about 24-36Mbps.
The modem/router itself has been very stable as I leave it on 24x7. Apart from the firmware upgrade it has not crashed and it seemed to give me a better download speed than my previous Netgear DG834PN.
Hope this helps.0
