Bathroom issue

Hi everyone
DH and I have been viewing a lovely two bed cottage that we have both fallen in love with, ticks all the right boxes....apart from the bathroom.
The only bathroom in the cottage is via the master bedroom.. The current owners moved this upstairs from downstairs, no moving the waste pipe or any hassle like that, just went straight up. For them it hasn't been a problem, even after two babbies, and in the short term it wouldn't be a problem for us.
DH is stalling on putting in an offer, because he is really concerned that we would struggle to sell the place on (even though it has lovely period features etc and it really saleable in every other aspect, it's getting LOADS of attention right now), as people might be put off that to get to the bathroom, you have to go through a bedroom. Also, my mother comes to stay with us sometimes, and I have to admit on those occasions it could be a bit awkward her coming through what would be our room for a wee at night
I would provide a rightmove link, but none of the pics show this and the floorplan is miniscule and won't enlarge...
Any ideas? Thoughts? Experiences?

No one can answer this - it's up to you.
Yes, just as you have reservations now, so will some future buyers when you sell.
Yes it will be a hastle for your mother... and you.
Can you live with it? Move the bathroom later?
Do you love the house enough...? Up to you..0 -
2 problems:
- Does it suit you?
- If you resell, will it suit your potential buyers?
- Buy the house now
- Fix the bathroom problem on a timescale to suit you

Oh the joy of period properties, cottage full of character and this is one aspect of them. It depends on the rest of the place as to how powerfully it ticks other boxes as to whether new buyers would accpet this.
Older places do have these quirks and people accept them more than if they were built in from new in a new build. I myself wouldn't touch it but I confess to liking modern houses. In my work I have seen enough old stuff with rot, smells, cracks, compromises, etc.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. Is there any option for adding a Wc back downstairs???
Also would it be possible to put stud walling in to make a corridor to the bathroom!! Stud walling is very cheap and will go up quickly!!!0 -
As its an old house have you considered the period accessory for the spare room... a chamber pot!For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0
