Any benifit grants to help become self employed?

Hi, I have been signing on for around 2 years now, I am on income based JSA.
I am trying to become self employed starting up a small business.
I have been told that there is a descretional grant I may get to help with the price of tools but when I asked at the job centre I was told that they have never heard of them.
Does anyone know if there is something availible as I have bad debts and cannot get a loan and I am stuggling to make ends meet as it is I cant save the money up,
Its £2500 I need to get going
Thank you
Davie

There is some help available, but £2500 is a lot of money. Could I ask what it is for?Gone ... or have I?0

Ask JCP if they have any Training Progs where you can test trade whilst you claim JSA. You could get an advisor to put a business plan together etc.
There may be other schemes "Princes Trust", Business advisors in your area (Business Link/Local Council/Local Paper)0 -
Not 100% sure but I think there is a new £50 weekly in work credit for one year for people who go self employed after being on JSA?
Ask about the adviser discretionary fund at the Jobcentre for help with tools etc.0 -
Not sure on the grants other than mentioned above.
As you have a clear focus over what you really want to do - take any job to save for your ambition (you will get there).0
