I have just been working out how much my new additional (already have a large one, just bought a small size) slow cooker will cost to run.

If anyone is still thinking whether they should buy one or not, mine will cost me just less than 7p to leave it cooking for 8 hours.

It is 120w so times by hours on and divide by 1000 to work out how many kwh it is to run and times that by whatever is says on your electricity bill for the cost of a kwh.

;)

They are dirt cheap to run, even at the higher end of the electric tariff it would prob only cost about 15p.

Sounds good to me, now where were those 250 crock pot recipes that I had.

  • As this has fallen from the front page of Old Style, I'll move it to the utilities board ;)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. • Since we got our Remoska we don't use the slow cooker so much. The Remoska cooks meat absolutely beautifully (including stews) and our Grand (largest version) uses approx 7p of leccy per hour (rated at 650w but the regular version is rated at only 475w). Obviously more than a slow cooker does but of course it also cooks much quicker (with similar results with regard to tenderness of meat). The other advantage of the Remoska is it basically does everything an oven does (baking, cooking, etc) but at much reduced cost so our leccy-guzzler of an oven is redundant most days.
