Mac 3 Dongle help needed

My daughter has given me her 3 dongle which will work until the end of November but when I plug it into my Macbook, it doesn't recognise the dongle. I really want to be able to use it when we go away soon so does anyone have any ideas as to how I can make it work? We use wireless broadband at home but the mac doesn't like the dongle. How can I help them to get on?:D

Any thoughts and suggestions gratefully received.

is it a "3" branded dongle? or just a 3G dongle?

the three site usually has info on how to get their dongles working?

The dongles usually pop up as a CD-Rom (they have a bit of flash memory which holds a copy of the software and drivers required)
Check to see if you have an extra CD-Rom listed. you might just need to run the software there (not sure if it has Mac software.)

But it "should" recognize it as soon as you plug it in. it should be listed in the networking section

  • We used to use a 3 dongle with our macbooks, Once you get the correct software you should be ok! It always gave us great coverage and no problems!

Hmm, it's normally possible to download the drivers from the site of whoever makes the dongle but I couldn't find anthing for Macs. Have you tried the link fwor posted?
Some dongles have the neccessary software on them ready to go, are you sure it is compatible with a Mac?

My 3 dongle has a virtual cdrom, so it shows up in finder and has the Mac version of the communications manager software on there ready to install on the host system. Ditto my O2 dongle.
  • Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I shall pass them on to my computer consultant (my son). It's a 3 branded dongle rather than anything else. I shall keep you posted with my progress. Thanks again.
