Renting in Newry and surroundings

Hi guys,

Looking into renting in and around newry, nothing more than about 15 mins in the car. Can anyone recommend good sites? I am used to propertynews but it really doesnt seem to work so well in that there are really very few results. Is there a better, local, place to search (short of turning up at an agents!)?

Thanks

Here's a link to the local rag, The Newry Reporter:

Unfortunately it's a bit sparse with ads for local accommodation on-line - there's usually a few more in the actual paper though not that many more really.

IMO you'd probably increase your chances of getting somewhere to your taste/requirements if you try individual estate agencies. I have never come across any website which is abundant with rental properties - I don't think they bother other than update their own websites every now and again.

Here's some local estate agents - I've seen some of their "To Let" boards up around Newry recently:

Thank you! I had a funny feeling that you would say as you did - online there seems to be almost nothing available but I find it hard to believe that there is actually that much of a shortage. I may just have to go about it the old fashioned way!

I agree that buying the Newry Reporter on Thursdays (IIRC) might be your best bet. You could also try McVeigh Letting Agency, which I have had decent experiences with in the past.

  • There was a few propertys in THE OUTLOOK this week for rent in Rathfriland, which is only about 10mins away.
  • yeah sometimes its worth just typing in a location into googler and seeing what it brings up. e.g. rent house newry or look at a map and look at other towns. there are back ways from banbridge, scarva, tandragee and gilford etc that are prob. a 20 min drive but probably cheaper..

Lol...are you the bloke in the helicopter living there then? 15 mins at least on a quiet Sunday morning maybe. In rush hour (Newry is worse than Belfast) you're looking at 30 mins plus to town centre. Still a very good idea to look around Rathfriland, Hilltown, Mayobridge though, as you will likely get better property for less cash.

Thanks to all for the help. I have been going through newspaper classifieds and anything else I can find. I have to say that I am swaying towards an apartment in Newry itself and save me the hassle of using the car for most of the time... but apartments are the rarest of the lot!

Thanks. I am going to take a run down at the weekend, pick up the papers and get a good look about to see where looks like a decent area to live.

I'm a blow in to the Newry area....I'm willing to tell you The Truth about areas that you may not be so familiar with (that's if I know anything). I might have to contact you via private messages to avoid upsetting people:o
