Barclaycard refund of credit card charges

Hi, Can anyone please give me some advice. I wrote to Barclaycard recently and requested the refund of late payment fees totalling £429.28 inclusive of interest, using the template letters of this website. I have today received a letter from Barclaycard saying as a gesture of goodwill and without any admission of liability they are refunding the money.

However, I fell behind with my payments and Barclaycard sold the debt to Cabot Finance in December 2008. The debt is still with Cabot.

In Barclaycard's letter they say 'The agency responsible for your account has been notified and your account balance will be amended accordingly' Can they do this.

I have rang Cabot Finance and they confirmed the date when they bought the debt from Barclaycard and how much they bought it for. They have confirmed that they are not connected with Barclaycard at all. Can Barclaycard just send my money to Cabot or not, any advice would be greatly received.

Thanks

Yes they can, but I think the question is How much do you owe Cabot Finance and will the amount clear the balance?
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
