    I've not gone off the idea based on the number of posts in a forum!
  • Our property (detached house) has a basement flat (dad had it built years ago). FYI, coucil requires a seperate payment of council tax for it as they see it as a seperate property (with its own external access, gas/elec meters, boiler). We've not rented it out in years, but are thinking of doing so. It requires its own commercial building insurance.
  • Interestingly (if you are a nerd like moi..) if the basement flat was converted from being part of the house at some point then they are not "normal" tenancies but, IIRC, "Occupiers with basic protection" and can be removed surprisingly easy.
