Stone memorial

We are in the unfortune position of having to get my FIL's name added to a stone memorial and whilst the actual cost of doing that doesn't seem excessive, what I am querying is the cost of removing and then subsequently replacing the memorial.

The stone mason is based about 10 miles from the relevant cemetary and they want over £100 to take the stone away and then replacing it - this to me seems very extortionate.

Hubby on the other hand seems happy with it - would you query it?

Cost of man + van to drive 20 miles and say 2 hours total time + fuel + insurance + other van running costs inc depreciation and cost of loan to buy van + wages + national insurance + tools + paid holidays etc - it all adds up £100 would seem to be what most companies would charge

and I'm even more convinced now that this a tad OTT.

He actually has priced the removal/resiting of the memorial stone (which is not a headstone, just a stone you see at a garden of rememberance) he has quoted £165.

I appreciate the comments you've made but this hardly seems right....btw is there much work involved in replacing such a stone? I'm a novice when it comes to these things but I wouldn't have thought it would have taken the brain of britain to lay these type of stones!

It seems quite reasonable to me considering it's a specialist job and the travel involved.
