Endowment seller out of business?

Hi everyone,
I will try to keep this brief.
Years ago we were sold an endowment by the Leeds Permanent, a few years later they sold us another when we moved house.
Recently we tried ( through a mis-selling claims company, yes I know I should have done it myself but time is a bit tight)to claim for mis-selling. The company came back and said that one of the claims couldn't be followed as the company that sold it to us were no longer in business and they gave the name and address of a company I have never heard of.
I explained that the Leeds Permanent sold us both policies but they said they could proceed no further with that claim.
Recently I received an endowment shortfall red alert letter from Friends Provident( the endowment that I couldn't claim for) and on the back of it in the 'What to do now ' section they recommend contacting a financial adviser with the same name and address as the company I apparently bought the endowment from, now supposedly out of business.
Has anyone else come across this and is there anything I can do?

Is the adviser on the FSA register?

Well a company with the same name at the same address is on the register, but don't know if its the same company who sold me the endowment.
Does that make any sense
